Fly on Your Own
Fly on Your Own
Have you ever wondered how it would be like to fly high in the air while feeling the blazing wind on your face? Paragliding and parasailing are some ways to fulfil this dream, but since paragliding is basically falling slowly from the moment you are in the air and parasailing requires a motorboat, a person to drive the motorboat, and a large lake or sea, you might want a more maneuverable, practical flight. Did you know that there is a paraglider that runs by motor power?
Paramotoring is the name for a powered paragliding or PPG, which literally means you can paraglide with motor power. Unlike regular paragliding, the pilot can control the direction and altitude, thanks to the giant propeller mounted on the back. The models have two basic types: foot launch and wheel launch.
Foot launch model is a backpack consisting of an engine, fuel tank, and propeller. A paraglider is attached to the backpack, and the pilot can change directions by pulling two harnesses attached to each end of a paraglider. Similar to regular paragliding, the pilot launch and also land by foot.
Wheel launch model is the same as the foot launch model except that it is not a backpack. It is basically a paraglider and a propeller attached to a go-kart. A light, car-shaped frame that consists of three or four wheels helps the smooth launching and landing possible. However, it weighs and costs more than the foot launch model because of the frame and wheels. Also, it is not as portable as the foot launch model.
If you are interested in flying freely in the air, why don’t you go ahead and try paramotoring?
