Jay Mo (G12)
A passionate creative writer since 5th grade, I’ve been involved in The Hermes since the start of high school. I enjoy writing articles related to pop culture (movies, in particular) and mental wellbeing of students. My goal as a writer is to deliver useful yet entertaining information that students can actually take something away from. I love breaking the conventional notion (that news articles should be dedicated to the formal conveying of issues) by introducing articles of innovative styles and topics with eye-grabbing titles.
I am a huge fan of fantasy novels and movies such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones as well as a fierce Overwatch gamer. You will find me reading, writing, playing the piano, or spending time with my dog during my free time.

I grew from freshman to senior year along with the Newspaper Club. Literature is like being given a block grant where I can freely transform a blank piece of paper into a form of self-expression. Writing is both my main communication method as well as my avid supporter that propels me to be a ponderer and to value well-thought-out speeches and writings. In Hermes, I can support my position with firm evidence; in Hermes, I can be a mediator in relaying information to my community; in Hermes, I extend myself.
Erin Han (G12)
From the time I was in middle school, I have continuously worked on writing articles in the newspaper club. Surprisingly, I was not a passionate writer at that time. Being a member of the newspaper club for several years, however, I came to realize that newspaper is a way that I can approach various fields beside just staring at a boring textbook. And I could have a whole new perspectives to view the events happening all around the world. I’m not sure about what I’m going to major in college and work for when I become an adult. But as reading and writing articles provides broad as well as deep knowledge, joining this newspaper club, I believe, will serve as a basis to my dream after I find out what I truly want to be.

I wrote an essay in English for the first time when I came to St.Paul: the second semester of 8th grade. At first, it was hard for me to write, but I started enjoying writing as time went by. Since I enjoy my free time by playing sports and watching movies, I hope most of my articles will focus on those things. As a high school writer, I will try my best to write articles that are fun, easy, and accurate as possible so that readers can not only can feel empathy but also get the correct information from it.

As a new member in The Hermes, I intend to improve my writing skills throughout the years. Furthermore, my goals this year in Hermes, are to tell and deliver topics that most people think is boring or complicated more effectively and entertainingly. I enjoy reading about mystery, romance, and sometimes economy or fantasy. I am a huge fan of Harry Potter, The Giver as well as a passionate fan in High School Teenage movies. You’ll have me swimming, playing, talking with my friends and spending my time surfing the Internet.

Since elementary school, I've enjoyed reading classic novels such as Pride and Prejudice, The Merchant of Venice, and Wuthering Heights. Post middle school, I started to watch dramas or movies through netflix during my free time. I also love shopping, traveling, eating, and going to volunteer work whenever I have time.
I am interested in history and psychology and love to learn new languages. I can speak Korean, English, Mandarin, Spanish, a little bit of Japanese and French. I also learned Korean Sign Language(수화)by myself.
Serene Ahn (G10)
I’m a sophomore at Saint Paul Preparatory School. I love reading books, especially non-fiction, and I also love to watch movies, especially romance and musical ones. My favorite movie is ‘LaLaLand,’ which I have watched over 5times. I listen to a lot of hiphop songs rather than quiet, ballad ones, and I enjoy dancing. But beyond all of these, I am totally into debating. I love to have discussions, debates, and other things that I can express my opinion.
Johanna Lee (G10)
Writing down random thoughts that I have on my phone is one of the things I enjoy doing. The random notes that I make sometimes turn into full articles, like the ones I wrote in my middle school newspaper club. My favorite book is The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. I’m more of a book person so I prefer reading the book to the movie version. I read multiple newspapers a day, comparing the different points of view in articles. Going through that process helps me get an opinion of my own, which is helpful when I write.
I hope I have a fun, meaningful year being part of Hermes.
Noah Kim (G10)
An avid thinker and daydreamer, I enjoy diving into a particular topic, whether it be related to science, politics, or the school itself. As a centrist, I have a particular interest in American and Korean politics. Being a skeptic myself, I will back up my arguments with facts and logic to combat so-called “fake news”. I would enjoy writing about major political events in the United States of America and Korea. My goal as a writer would be to deliver accurate information on major events and offer my analysis and views. I will stay away from creating clickbait articles, and instead focus on important matters and getting the information across.
My hobbies include fencing, coding, and gaming. In my free time, you may see me debating on political forums or looking at memes.
Woojoo (Leo) Cho (G9)
Coming into an international school, I became interested in the news written in English. As I read a lot of them, I felt that English has more ways to express one’s feelings, opinions, and thoughts than Korean has. I got attracted by the two features of the news; funny, and straightforward. They made me feel I want to write my own article, and gave me the motivation to become a good writer. Becoming a casual, hilarious writer is my goal in The Hermes.
I have had a great interest in designing and writing since I was in elementary school. I love designing frames of papers the most. Also, I like looking at the designing of the characters from games or movies. My favorite video game is “The Last of Us” and my favorite movie is “Star Wars.” I love reading the CNN news, especially the global issues.
Subin Yoon (G9)
Science has always been a huge part of my life. I have a great interest in neuroscience, or the study of human brains, in particular. I believe that everything that happens in our world has a reason and it is my obsession to explain the smallest and randomest things that seem meaningless scientifically and logically. I hope to share this obsession of mine with the readers through my articles. You would often see me reading scientific fictions and mystery novels during my free time. My favorite author is Bernard Werber, who is famous for his works such as “The ants” or “L’ultime secret.” Learning new languages is also one of my great interests and I am currently working on my French skills. I am a huge fan of Marvel movies.
